CNIHR Requests Proposals from Young Investigators for Research Grant Program

    

AUG-29-11 Today, the National Institutes of Health announced another opportunity to submit proposals for the CNIHR-Creative and Novel Ideas in HIV Research program.  This is a research grant program for early career investigators with no prior experience in HIV research. The program is sponsored by the National CFARs, the Office of AIDS Research and the International AIDS Society. 

The purpose of the Creative and Novel Ideas in Research Awards program (CNIHR) is to create a mechanism via the established Centers for AIDS Research (CFARs) to fund developmental projects to bring insight and new ideas to the HIV/AIDS field of study from early stage investigators with expertise in other disciplines.  The intent of this program is to attract both international and U.S.-based young, early stage investigators from outside the field of HIV/AIDS research to help address new questions related to emerging issues of long-term survival with HIV infection and the prevention of HIV transmission.  

 The Awards

  • The awards will be up to 2 years in length.
  • Up to $150,000 Direct Cost per year, (the amount of the award will vary depending on the proposal).
  • International AIDS Society will provide funding for awardees to attend future IAS meetings during the proposed period of research  

Who is eligible? 

  • Junior investigators (no more than 10 years after completion of terminal degree (PhD or equivalent) or medical residency) who are faculty and new to the HIV field.
  • Both domestic and international investigators are encouraged to apply. 

Timeline

  • Application for these awards will be a two stage process:
    • Concept sheets (2 pages) will be submitted by October 17, 2011 and reviewed by a Scientific Committee.
    • Selected applicants will submit a full application, due February 9, 2012.
    • Notice of Awards will be made in mid to late April, 2012.  
  • The 2012 Awards will be announced at the 2012 International AIDS Conference in Washington, D.C.
