Rare Diseases Forum

The Rare Diseases Forum: Facilitating Drug Development for the Treatment of Inborn Errors of Metabolism and other Genetically Based Rare Diseases

One in 10 Americans suffer from a rare disease, defined as a disease affecting less than 200,000 individuals in the USA. In the European Union, an estimated 30 million people suffer from a rare disease. Generally, these conditions are heterogeneous; many are progressive, chronically debilitating and frequently life threatening. About 75% of rare diseases affect children, with 30% not surviving to age five [1].
