The HIV Cure Project

This project was established in 2013 with special NIH funding to address regulatory hurdles in HIV cure interventions in the following areas:

  • Preclinical animal models, biomarkers, endpoints and assays, as well as the definition of cure in a clinical trial setting
  • The clinical science and management of HIV cure trials: cell activation/reversal of latency, immune-based, and gene therapy
  • Ethics and fairness in trial recruitment, patient education, and informed consent

On June 23, 2014, CONRAD, AVAC and the Forum for Collaborative HIV Research convened a workshop on alternative trial designs for microbicides which generated lively discussion among more than 60 participants. A number of possible designs were presented, as described in the attached proceedings.
